Weekly War Update: Army Ends Shejaiya Operation
Shejaiya Operation
The IDF finished its 2 week operation in the Shejaiya neighborhood in Eastern Gaza City. During the operation combat engineers demolished eight major tunnels and killed more than 150 gunmen. The IDF has had to return several times to Northern Gaza despite what seemed to be an overwhelming victory in the beginning of the war because Hamas has been able to return using tunnels and other means to northern Gaza neighborhoods.
Noa and Nir Barnes Killed In The Golan
Noa and Nir Barnes were killed in the Northern Golan when a Hezbollah rocket hit their car in a direct hit. The attack which killed the 46 year old couple was in retaliation for the IDF’s elimination of Yasser Qarnabash in Syria - Hassan Nasrallah’s former bodyguard. According to Syrian media, Qarnabash was killed in a strike on a Hezbollah vehicle near a Syrian army checkpoint on the Damascus-Beirut highway.
Hezbollah Fires Deeper Into The Galilee
A 28-year-old man was seriously injured by shrapnel from rockets fired at Kfar Zeitim in the Lower Galilee. He was transported to Baruch Padeh-Poriya medical center near Tveria (Tiberius). The missile attack set off fires across the Golan and Galilee. Hezbollah also scored a direct hit on the Meron IAF radar base - a key piece of infrastructure that Hezbollah has been aiming for.
Valery Chaponov Was Killed By UAV
Sergeant First Class Valery Chaponov, was fatally injured by a UAV attack in the north, died of his wounds.
