ISIS, Hamas, and The War In Jerusalem

As the world focuses on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, many are missing just how prevalent Hamas style organizations are in not only Judea and Samaria, but in Jerusalem as well. Last week it was reported that two Jerusalem Arab residents who belong to ISIS were arrested for planning and preparing a string of bombings in and around the Knesset and other places in Israel’s capital.

This was the second such arrest over the past month. While Jerusalem is by no means an active war zone, these arrests and other alarming incidents points to increasing centralization of Jerusalem to the war. As has been noted plenty of time – Hamas has made conquering Jerusalem a major goal of the current conflict.

Although the Jerusalem front appears to be largely symbolic, the reality is opposite. The Hamas ideology is easily spread throughout the Arab populace and there is no better place to push this than with those Arabs residing in the parts of Jerusalem liberated in 1967. By doing so Hamas can quickly bring their war to Jerusalem.

The only way to ensure Hamas cannot do that is to continue to rebuild, reclaim, and ensure all of Jerusalem remains under Israeli sovereignty. The best way to do that is to support and give strength to today’s urban pioneers – those families who have moved to neighborhoods liberated in 1967.
